We had an excellent fog day earlier this week. Well, excellent for photographic purposes, if not much else (driving, flying, not bumping into things or falling into ditches).
Anyway, I was driving around and saw this stand of trees just off the road. It's a road I've driven down hundreds of times, as it's close to work, and I'd never really paid much attention to the trees and surroundings - mostly it's new buildings tied in to a shopping center and hospital complex. But on a deeply foggy afternoon, they just floated out of the mist. I pulled a sharp Uey and parked illegally just to get this shot - pretty minor in the grand scheme of photographic things.

Fresh Snow and Monochrome
I'm about to institute iPhone Wednesdays around here. I seem to be doing more phoneography than usual. Anyway, this is the Japanese garden at the Fabyan Forest Preserve in Batavia, Illinois. Fresh snow and monochrome!

Light Leak
Some of you have heard of the Orionid meteor shower that recently lit up the night skies. I had a notion to try and finally capture something like this, so I went out in the country to do some test shots. this is facing east, with the lights of the Chicago suburbs almost making it look like sunrise instead of 10 pm.
Where are the meteor photos, you ask? There ain't none. I slept through it!

Ran When Parked
"Ran when parked" is one of those classic things you read in old car want ads, usually for some old crock that's been sitting under a tarp in someone's back yard for 27 years. It almost always means "won't run now", along with "brakes seized solid" and "squirrels have been storing acorns in the exhaust system".
Anyway, I thought of that phrase when I found this old Schwinn parked in front of one of the warehouses at the former Green River ordnance factory. It looked in pretty good shape, but it had certainly been sitting a while. The headlight was rusty, the chrome peeling, the tires flat.
